‘Telling Your Story: Vignettes and Reflections’ Writing Workshop to be held in Solana Beach
Are your relatives and friends urging you to share your life experiences? Would you like to capture your memories on the page? Written reflections on life and memories can create social connections and weave a life tapestry – a legacy to be shared.
Join Solana Beach Community Connections’ (SBCC’s) Writing Workshop for a series of four, two-hour sessions in a safe environment that encourages written expression. The workshop meets on Thursdays, Feb. 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 10 a.m. to noon. Participants will gather in the Main Hall of La Colonia Park Community Center, located at 715 Valley Avenue, Solana Beach. The workshop is part of SBCC’s mission to support community engagement for mature adults in Solana Beach, according to a news release.
Back by popular demand, this is the fifth presentation of the Writing Workshop created by SBCC and Eberly Barnes. Enthusiastic participants had this to say about the workshop. “Great teacher, excellent at creating a safe space for us,” and “the dialogue exchange was my favorite part.”
Barnes, who has inspired memoir-writers in four SBCC previous workshops will be the guide and instructor. She recently retired after 12 years leading a writing program for the undergraduates at UC San Diego. In addition to her academic life as a writer and teacher, Barnes has worked as a speechwriter, freelance editor, and writer. She has published memoir stories and writes a blog.
Class size is limited to the first 15 registrants and signups are on a first-come, first-served basis. Others will be placed on a waiting list. Participants are expected to attend at least three of the four sessions. In each interactive session, participants will receive suggestions for topics, share their written reflections, and discuss with classmates and the instructor in a relaxed, social environment.
