Our mission statement

The American Red Cross alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing volunteers and donors. The nonprofit organization shelters, feeds and provides comfort after disasters; supplies about 40% of U.S. blood; teaches lifesaving skills; distributes international humanitarian aid; and supports veterans, military personnel and their families.

Our 2026 goals

  • Collect lifesaving blood
  • Help the community prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters
  • Provide training courses such as CPR and AED training
  • Support active-duty service members, veterans and military families
  • Support Red Cross International Services
  • Provide nutritional counseling and support through our Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program

We serve San Diego and Imperial Counties, as well as supporting nationally during disasters and emergencies.

Fundraising events

Every fall, the American Red Cross of San Diego and Imperial Counties hosts the Real Heroes Awards. This inspiring event honors ordinary people with extraordinary courage for acts of heroism and humanitarian service. Calling all volunteers

You can make a tremendous impact as a Red Cross volunteer. Help communities prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters, support service members and military families, assist at blood drives and so much more. The Red Cross is proud that an average of 90 cents of every dollar we spend is invested in delivering care and comfort to those in need.
