3 local spots among Yelp’s top 100 sandwich shops in America
Yelp has announced its 2025 list of the Top 100 Sandwich Shops in America and three area eateries made the list, which was based on nominations, rankings and reviews submitted by members of the crowd-sourced ratings platform.
Beyer Deli in San Diego’s Otay Mesa was named 12th place on the national list. The family-run shop was first name to the Yelp list in 2015 and it rose to 4th place in 2023. Come on Over Cafe, an industrial park sandwich shop that opened in Oceanside in 2017, earned 15th place on the list. The Dutch Sandwich Shop in Temecula ranked 18th on the list. Fox Point hosting Feeding San Diego dinner: Feeding San Diego will collaborate with Fox Point Farms in Encinitas on its fall Pairings with a Purpose dinner party on Oct. 9. The outdoor dinner, prepared by Fox Point culinary director chef Alex Carballo, will introduce diners to the working organic farm where produce grown onsite is served in the community’s Haven restaurant and other locations. The multicourse farm-to-table dinner will include wine pairings. Tickets for up to 120 guests are available for $550 each. Coastal Roots Farm dinners: Coastal Roots Farm in Encinitas is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a series of Farm-to-Fork dinners that raise money for the nonprofit Jewish community farm and education center. Each year the farm offers farm camps for up to 12,000 youths and it grows more than 80,000 pounds of produce, of which 75 percent is donated to community members experiencing food insecurity. To support the farm and its programs, Coastal Roots is hosting summer and fall Taste of the Farm fundraising dinners onsite with guest chefs. The outdoor pescatarian dinners for up to 60 people include wine and beer pairings. The Halal Guys expands into San Diego: Launched in New York City in 1990 by three Egyptian co-founders, this quick-service gyro sandwich chain opened its first San Diego restaurant Aug 16 at 3825 Fifth Ave. in Hillcrest. The San Diego location is operated by franchise owners Farhan Qadri, Faisal Zia, Irfan Ahmed, Sohaib Khan and Shahid Khan.
