Anti-Prop. 50 editorials were out of touch with county, state voters
The result of the statewide Proposition 50 vote illustrates that The San Diego Union-Tribune Editorial Board is out of touch with its readers. A day after the proposition was approved for the ballot by the California Legislature and governor, the U-T Opinion page on Aug. 22 published the first of two editorials opposing it. And yet the voters of San Diego County and the entire state approved Proposition 50 in a landslide.
Of 919,830 votes cast in San Diego County, 60.9% favored Proposition 50, called the “Election Rigging Response Act.” And it is likely that an even higher percentage of Union-Tribune subscribers favored Proposition 50, considering a 2020 Associated Press study that found that 58% of newspaper subscribers are Democrats.
