At least two people bitten by dogs reported running loose in Mount Hope
At least two people sustained bites after dogs were reported to be running loose in the Mount Hope neighborhood Friday evening, San Diego police said.
An 18-year-old man called 911 just before 5:50 p.m. to say he had been bitten by a dog, and that multiple dogs were running loose in the area of 35th and K streets, Officer Anthony Carrasco said.
San Diego Humane Society officers later clarified that two loose dogs had injured multiple people. One person suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital, said local Humane Society spokesperson Nina Thompson. Another suffered minor to moderate injuries.
“There may be additional victims, and this remains an open investigation,” Thompson said.
Officers arrived and encountered the loose dogs. At one point, an officer deployed a Taser on a dog.
San Diego Humane Society officers were also called to the scene. The dog that was tasered was taken to a veterinarian, Thompson said. The second dog, a boxer, was taken to the Humane Society campus.
“Both dogs are being held on a state-mandated bite quarantine,” Thompson said.
No further information was immediately available.
