Aztecs invite season-ticket holders to watch football practice from the sidelines
San Diego State is giving season-ticket holders a chance for a closer look at the 2025 football team, inviting them to watch workouts from the sidelines at the SDSU practice fields.
The Aztecs open fall camp on Wednesday, four weeks before the Aug. 28 season opener against Stony Brook at Snapdragon Stadium.
“We’re excited for the opportunity for our season-ticket holders, those who have supported us and are loyal Aztecs fans, to come see how hard our guys have been working and have this exclusive opportunity to watch us work,” SDSU coach Sean Lewis said.
Season-ticket holders will be allowed to watch from the east sideline at the SDSU practice fields, similar to where scouts and recruits stand when observing practice. The invitation is extended for the first two weeks of practice. Interested fans should contact the SDSU ticket office at (619) 283-7378 for details.
The Aztecs usually practice in the morning, beginning at about 8:30 a.m. with warmup drills. Practice starts at 9:15 a.m. and the workouts typically last until about two hours. The practice fields are adjacent to Parking Structure 7, which is located at the corner of Montezuma Road and 55th Street. Fans need to be mindful of parking fees.
“We’ll make them feel special, because they are special, and give them exclusive access to the team,” Lewis said. “Because we are their team and want them to be a part of what we’re building.
“I believe they will have a great appreciation for how hard our guys work and get to know our guys on a more intimate and personal level.”
The Aztecs also are hopeful this could encourage additional fans to sign up for season tickets. With the opener four weeks away, there have been 6,676 season ticket packages sold. That’s a 76% renewal rate based on last year’s season ticket total of 8,755.
The Aztecs (3-9 overall, 2-5 MW in 2024) are playing their final season in the Mountain West before moving to the reconstituted Pac-12. They were picked for eighth place in the Mountain West in a recent conference media poll. SDSU returns four starters on offense and nine starters on defense. Junior edge Trey White, who was selected MW preseason Defensive Player of the Year, leads the way after recording 12 1/2 sacks last season.
FanFest details
SDSU will hold a FanFest scrimmage Aug. 14 at Snapdragon Stadium.
The FanFest event will give fans their first glimpse of the 2025 team under game-like conditions.
SDSU, coming off a 3-9 season, features 51 new faces on the 103-man roster — 29 transfers and 22 incoming freshmen.
Picking out the veterans will take some doing as well. Two dozen returners have changed their jersey numbers.
The Aztecs return nearly the entire starting lineup on defense, led by White. The junior edge rusher was among the nation’s leaders last season with 12 1/2 sacks..
The only returning starters on offense are senior tackle Christian Jones and senior center Ross Ulugalu-Maseuli, though sophomore wide receiver Jordan Napier had a breakout season as a true freshman.
FanFest is free, but fans are required to have a ticket for entry. Fans can claim up to four tickets online at ticketmaster.com/sdsu/buy/AztecFanFest or by calling the SDSU ticket office at (619) 283-7378.
Parking is $10 and can be purchased online where tickets are reserved.
The parking lots open at 5 p.m. Entry gates open at 6 and kickoff for the scrirmmage is 7:05.
It is a rare Thursday event, aligning the Aztecs with the Thursday night season opener on Aug. 28 against Stony Brook.
SDSU is expected to identify its starting quarterback soon after the scrimmage. Junior transfers Jayden Denegal and Bert Emanuel Jr. are competing for QB1.
Kickoff dinner
SDSU’s annual kickoff event, historically a midday get-together on campus, will take place Aug. 21 at 6 p.m. on the deck of the USS Midway. Tickets are $100, and include dinner and two drinks apiece. Seats must be reserved by Aug. 11 at am.ticketmaster.com/sdsu/buy/2025azteckickoff. Those interested can email tnixon@sdsu.edu for additional information.
