Aztecs women go big against Cal State San Marcos, 95-35
San Diego State’s women’s basketball team rebounded from a season-opening, 77-53 road loss to third-ranked UCLA with a 95-35 victory over Division II Cal State San Marcos on Saturday afternoon at Viejas Arena.
The Aztecs led 53-22 at the half and closed out the game with a 20-3 run over the final nine minutes and 39 seconds.
Returning sophomore guards Nat Martinez and Naomi Panganiban led the Aztecs with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Senior transfer guard Nala Williams scored 12 while guards Kendall Mosley (a freshman) and senior Alyssa each scored 11.
No one reached double figures for the Cougars in their season opener. San Diego State shot 52.3 percent from the floor and out-rebounded CSUSM 40-24.
–The University of San Diego women (1-2) were outscored 28-17 in the second half in a 63-48 loss at Cal State Northridge on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore guard Kylie Ray led the Toreros with 20 points and nine rebounds but also committed nine turnovers.
–Senior guard Sabrina Ma scored 19 points and freshman guard Lev Feiman added nine as the UC San Diego women evened their record at 1-1 with a 72-54 win over Denver on Friday night. Replica banners were handed out to commemorate the Tritons’ 2024-2025 Big West championship.
