Bicyclist killed after being struck by pickup in Lemon Grove

by Caleb Lunetta

A bicyclist died shortly after being struck by a pickup in Lemon Grove on Sunday evening, sheriff’s officials said.

Deputies received a report of a serious injury collision around 9:30 p.m. on Troy Street near Camino de Las Palmas, Sgt. William Price said.

The bicyclist was found lying in the eastbound lane of the road after he or she was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado, Price said.

Paramedics transported the bicyclist to a hospital, where the person died about an hour later. The bicyclist’s name was not released pending notification of family.

The pickup’s driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, Price said.

Investigators said they do not believe the pickup’s driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, nor was reckless driving a factor in the crash.
