Body of man found inside Escondido house that caught fire
A man was found dead in a house fire in Escondido on Saturday afternoon.
Escondido police and firefighters responded to a fire around 4 p.m. on South Upas Street near West Fifth Avenue. One of the bedrooms was found fully engulfed, and firefighters extinguished the flames.
Firefighters found a man who had died inside one of the rooms. Family members told police the man had health problems and used an oxygen machine, police Lt. Janice Kuehn said.
The fire is being investigated by the Escondido Fire Department and police, Kuehn said. She said she did not know how the fire ignited, but arson was not suspected.
