California could benefit from more rooftop solar
Re “Is state about to make energy even more costly?” (Aug. 7) This is a classic prestidigitation by the utilities. Almost all of the utilities in California make huge profits in constructing, usually, power lines. This is the purpose of the bill, SB 540, to build more. Which will increase the cost of delivering electric energy.
Rooftop solar, on the other hand, would obviate the need for expanding the grid. Employing it more widely would reduce the bills of all consumers.
It should be noted that in addition to promoting this bill which favors the utilities, Tom Philip has spread misinformation about rooftop solar. The source is not credible.
