Camp Pendleton identifies Marine killed in training vehicle accident

by Gary Robbins

The Marine who died in a tactical vehicle accident Wednesday at Camp Pendleton has been identified as Pfc. Tanner F. Rubio, a 21-year-old California native.

Rubio, who joined the Marines less than a year ago, was trained as an infantry rifleman and was assigned to 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, the base said. He was from Dixon, a city southwest of Sacramento.

The tactical vehicle accident was unrelated to Steel Knight 25, a huge exercise that began Monday. The incident is under investigation.

“The tragic loss of Pfc. Rubio is one felt across the 1st Marine Division,” Maj. Gen. Thomas Savage, commanding general of the 1st Marine Division, said in a statement.

“He will be sorely missed, but his honorable service to his country will not be forgotten.”
