Carmel Valley Fire Safe Council to host workshop on Aug. 12

by Karen Billing

The newly formed Carmel Valley Fire Safe Council will host a community workshop on Tuesday, Aug. 12 at 6 p.m. at the Pacific Highlands Ranch Library.  The workshop will be an opportunity for residents to learn helpful wildfire safety tips to protect their families, homes and the larger community, much of it located in a very high fire hazard severity zone.

Panel speakers will include Danny Glessner of Wildfire Home Hardening Specialists, also a longtime Carlsbad Fire Department firefighter, and Brenda Caloca, who handles community relations and outreach for the California Department of Insurance.

The Carmel Valley Fire Safe Council is a newly formed group. The Carmel Valley Community Planning Board was moved to take action to establish the council in light of the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles in January. Last summer’s 28-acre fire in the Del Mar’s Torrey Pines Reserve Extension also hit close to home, raising area evacuation concerns as the fire occurred during the busy fair season.
