City leaders failing both trash customers and taxpayers in general

by U T Readers

Re “City leaders’ trash deceit went beyond bait and switch on cost of service” (July 18) and “As San Diego’s trash deadline nears, thousands of people who lost city service are left out in the cold” (July 27): San Diego’s newest waste management plan “stinks.” The mayor and City Council continue to spend our money on unbelievable ideas that either fail or fall short. Part of the new $523.20 a year fee being added to our property tax bills will be used to purchase thousands of new trash bins (with tracking chips?) costing $65 million.

Elected leaders, did you purposely change the colors of new containers so we cannot continue to use our current ones? The six containers I have are in excellent condition, are paid for and should last many more years! You as employees are failing your bosses, the San Diego taxpayers.

I received a notice from the city that I would be charged the maximum fee for my trash containers even though I would not choose the maximum option. I am sure this overcharge will apply to most of the community based on the cans I currently see on the street. So the city will overcharge me this year, then rebate me, to help balance its deficit — which is mainly caused by elected leaders’ previous mistakes like Ash Street, and poor decisions such as massive salary increases, which are also increasing our water and sewer rates.

So I will have to track this and make sure I get my rebate. Or maybe I can just trust them because they do so many things right (sic).
