City’s Ash Street deal is ‘staggering and fantastic,’ but not in a good way

by U T Readers

Re “101 Ash St. lease skips city auditor’s full checklist” (July 27) and “San Diego agrees to lease 101 Ash St. to developer for low-income housing” (July 29): The terms, fees and costs related to the Ash Street proposal are staggering and fantastic in scope, and require an acceptance and an imagination that could only be appreciated during Comic-Con. The devotees of superheroes and cosplay can put away their costumes for another day, while San Diego residents will be stuck with the Ash Street nightmare for a very long time.

I think that demolition, site cleanup and a sale to a developer is the best option. The San Diego City Council along with the mayor are masters of creative math and loss write-offs, and should have no problem explaining this one away.
