City shouldn’t make excuses for inaction on greenhouse gas emissions
Re “San Diego is heading in the wrong direction on greenhouse gas emissions, new data show” (Nov. 28): Councilman Joe LaCava said the new data about climate levels is concerning, but the data is from 2022-2023. He brings up the budget crisis and Donald Trump in explaining the city’s failures, but there wasn’t a budget crisis in 2022-2023 nor a president named Trump in 2022-2023. For some reason, lack of action and results are always blamed on other factors, instead of elected leaders being responsible for their inaction and owning up to missed targets.
Another lawsuit is on the horizon if recommendations for results are not presented by Dec. 31. Will our City Council be able to work that fast on this issue? Unlikely.
