College honors, degrees for Poway, Rancho Bernardo students

Several students from the Poway and Rancho Bernardo area have earned academic honors and degrees from colleges and universities across the country.

Eight local students were among the approximately 1,500 named to the Biola University Spring 20205 Dean’s List. To be honored, they had to earn a GPA of 3.6 or higher while enrolled in 12 or more credits and a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2.

Locals making the list at the campus in La Mirada were:

• Aidan Falk of ZIP code 92127, who is majoring in biological science.

• Riley Hensley of ZIP code 92127, who is majoring in psychology.

• Sophia Nau of Poway, who is majoring in biological science.

• Adrian Rong of ZIP code 92127, who is majoring in sociology.

• Allison Schreiber of Poway, who is majoring in Spanish.

• Serena Shu of ZIP code 92128, who is majoring in mathematics.

• Raiden Tran of ZIP code 92128, who is majoring in biological science.

• James Wise of ZIP code 92127, who is majoring in Bible, theology and ministry.

Dylan Hines, a Poway High School alumnus, graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science from Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois as a member of its Class of 2025.

Hines is now at Durham University in the United Kingdom studying to earn a Master of Science degree.

Ian Palmroos, a computer science and mathematics major from the Rancho Bernardo area was named to the Spring 2025 Dean’s List at Augustana College.

More than 1,100 students were named to the Dean’s List for maintaining a term GPA of 3.5 or higher GPA at the campus in Rock Island, Illinois.

Andrea Perez of the Rancho Bernardo area, was recently elected to membership into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at Louisiana State University Shreveport.

Phi Kappa Phi bills itself as the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society.

Ten local students earned academic honors at Southern New Hampshire University during the summer 2025 term. The campus is based in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Kenneth Kakihara of ZIP code 92127 was named to the Dean’s List. To be honored, full-time undergraduate students had to earn a minimum GPA of 3.5 to 3.699 during the reporting term.

Students from Poway making the President’s List were Jordan Eicher, Aileen Hunt, Robert Jahelka, Chance Lissy, Emelia Peterson and Nicole Tennison.

Also making the President’s List were Anthony Alvarez of ZIP code 92127, Tyler Connell of ZIP code 92128 and Alympia Howard of ZIP code 92128.

To make the President’s List, full-time undergraduate students had to earn a GPA of 3.7 and above during the reporting term.

Jeremiah Leonor from the Rancho Bernardo area was one of 457 Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences students from five programs to receive their white coat during the university’s annual White Coat Ceremony on Sept. 19.

The White Coat Ceremony is the true start of a student’s medical education to becoming a health care provider. The campus is in West Des Moines, Iowa.
