Día de los Muertos at historic hacienda

The Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park holds a free open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 1-2 at the historic home and gardens of Hollywood legend Leo Carrillo, 6200 Flying Leo Carrillo Lane. Highlights Nov. 1 include crafts, food truck, face painting, an ofrenda, and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. dance performances by Ballet Folklorico de Tapatio de San Dieguito and a concert featuring Jarabe Mexicano. Halloween festivities at pumpkin patch

Haunted corn maze, marigold fields, bounceland, Jurassic Fright, tractor ride and sheep, goats and rabbits are among the fall attractions at the Carlsbad Strawberry Company’s pumpkin patch, which is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 31 at 1050 Cannon Road. Genealogy buffs discuss ‘Salem Witchcraft Hysteria’

Brick-or-Treat

Legoland California holds its Brick-or-Treat Monster Party on weekends in October with entertainment, dance parties, live music, costumed entertainers and trick-or-treating. The party is included with park admission. As part of its Halloween season celebration, there will be costumed characters, décor and seasonal treats daily through Oct. 31. Free genealogy Class

Village Walk at Eastlake hosts kids ages 12 and younger dressed in costume and accompanied by an adult at a free trick-or-treat event from 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 31. Bring a bag to collect your treats or pick up a free treat bag and a coupon booklet at the Halloween table near Mission Federal Credit Union. Burgers and Badges
CITY HEIGHTS: Burgers and Badges Trick-or-Treating event… A Burgers and Badges Trick-or-Treating event was recently held in City Heights. Law enforcement officers from the San Diego Police Department,  San Diego Unified School Police Department and the San Diego County Probation Department came to McDonald’s to hand out candies, cheeseburgers and other treats. Mainstreet Goes Ghostly

The Del Mar Rose Society hosts Beth Van Boxtel for a presentation at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 30 on “Beautiful Blooms with Beth,” about how to grow a gorgeous rose garden. Free concert features gospel music

The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Choir San Diego will give a concert featuring gospel music at 3 p.m. Nov. 1 at San Dieguito United Methodist Church, 170 Calle Magdalena, as part of the San Dieguito UMC Concert Series. The music celebrates unity, hope and community. Free Admission.

Community trick-or-treating

The free annual Safe Trick-or-Treat will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31. Many downtown businesses will have goodies for kids. Costumed trick-or-treaters can stroll South Coast Highway 101, from Encinitas Boulevard to K Street. There will be Halloween-themed activities and games for kids along with entertainment. Day of the Dead celebration at library

A Día de los Muertos celebration is from 3 to 5 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Encinitas Library, 540 Cornish Drive. Highlights include ballet folklorico and mariachi performances along with artmaking workshops. Exhibit features basket and gourd art

The Misti Washington Gourd and Basket Guild hosts an art show, “Nature’s Bounty,” through Nov. 2 at the Encinitas Community Center, 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive. The 32 basket and gourd artworks by 14 artists are made from nature, out of materials ranging from willow, grasses and yucca to rushes. Some art is for sale. Haunted Hoedown

Olivenhain Farms hosts its Haunted Hoedown to celebrate the Halloween season. Día de los Muertos festival

The free 30th annual Día de los Muertos festival at the California Center for the Arts Museum, 340 N. Escondido Blvd., is from 4 to 9 p.m. Nov. 1 with an artwalk, live music, food vendors, folklorico dance groups, community ofrendas and a catrina contest along with artisan market, kids’ crafts and face painting. Performances in the Concert Hall start at 5 p.m. The Marigold Bar will be serving drinks and there will be dancing to the tunes of DJ Mike Zee. The museum will be open with free admission, showing the current exhibition, “Light Among Shadows: The Night of the Dead in Pátzcuaro, Michoacán” and “XICANA! Art sought for exhibit honoring veterans

Fleet Reserve auxiliary holds craft fair

The Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 289 based in Imperial Beach, will hold its annual craft fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 1 at 659 Silver Strand Blvd. There will be a variety of handmade crafts and gifts by local artists along with music, photo booth and food. The craft fair serves as a fundraiser to support local scholarships for the families of local Navy, Marines and Coast Guard members. Free admission.

Howl-O-Ween tours at wolf center

The California Wolf Center, a nonprofit working on the recovery of wolves in the wild, will host its annual Howl-O-Ween tour at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at the conservation facility, Tall Pine and K Q Ranch roads. Visitors can make Halloween-themed items like pumpkin-spiced meatballs to share with the center’s ambassador wolves during their tour, in a fun, spooky setting. Costumes are welcome. Trunk-or-Treat

Scuba divers will transform the aquarium into an underwater pumpkin patch with their underwater pumpkin carving skills. Visitors will also have access to the new Living Seas exhibit. Halloween in the village

The La Mesa Village Association hosts a Halloween event from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 31  in downtown La Mesa. The event, between Grant Avenue and Acacia Avenue, and on adjoining streets, includes trick-or-treating at participating businesses, a Howl-o-Ween Pet Costume Contest, stilt walkers, a balloon artist, a DJ, a spooky organ concert at 4:30 p.m. at La Mesa First United Methodist Church, 4690 Palm Ave., and farmers market. Bike the Coast is back

The annual Bike the Coast event returns Nov.1 on Highway 101 with an expected 1,600 bicycle riders on various scenic courses, ranging from 7 to 100 miles. Baroque orchestra gives concert

The Kensington Baroque Orchestra will perform a concert, “Baroque Conversations,” at 6 p.m. Oct. 28 in the Rancho Bernardo Library’s second-floor community room, at 17110 Bernardo Center Drive, as part of the Friends of the RB Library’s 26th annual Chamber Concert series. Old Town San Diego State Historic Park hosts a Día de los Muertos celebration from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 1 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 2. There will be live entertainment on the Fiesta de Reyes stage, traditional and contemporary Día de los Muertos altars, professional face painters, art demonstrations and catrinas at the plaza. Halloween at the Station

Liberty Station puts on its annual free, family-friendly Halloween celebration from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 26. Highlights include a Hollywood car show, trick-or-treating, live DJ entertainment, crafts, inflatable obstacle courses, a cornhole tournament, crafts and costume contest for all ages with prizes. Fall Back Festival

The 25th Annual Fall Back Festival is from noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 2 on the streets around the iconic Davis-Horton House at Fourth and Island avenues. BeerFest at boardwalk

Belmont Park’s annual Beachside Fall Fest returns to the beachfront boardwalk each weekend through October with live “Pumpkin Jam” performances, seasonal treats, free trick-or-treating on Sunday and special events like Trunk or Treat and the second annual BeerFest on Oct. 26. Candlelight procession

Old Town’s Immaculate Conception Church hosts a candlelight procession for Día de los Muertos at 5 p.m. Nov. 2. This year’s procession will include Aztec dancers, catrina contest winners and Old Town park staff in 1800s period attire. The Vista Silver Star Foundation, a nonprofit that helps local seniors stay active in the community, hosts a Paint & Pour from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at Aegis Living at Shadowridge, 1440 S. Melrose Drive. Attendees can sip wine and have hors d’oeuvres  while creating a painting to take home. The event is led by a local artist.
