Crews halt spread of fire that threatened homes north of Fallbrook

A brush fire north of Fallbrook threatened a few homes late Tuesday afternoon before but crews halting its spread at 24 acres, a Cal Fire official said.

The fire was in the vicinity of West Sandy Creek Terrace in the community of De Luz. Evacuations were not ordered, but people were warned to be ready to clear out, Cal Fire Capt. Mike Cornette said.

The fire initially had been moving at a moderate rate of speed in the northern reaches of the county, near the Riverside County line, and crews had been making “good progress” on stopping the spread, Cornette said.

The fire response included helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, including drops by a DC-10, he said. Ground crews were also at the scene.

Firefighters were able to get a containment line drawn around ab out 10 percent of the fire by Thursday evening.
