Crown Point Junior Music Academy hosts successful Jog-a-Thon

When it came to running, Crown Point Junior Music Academy students beat their fundraising goal by $13,000.

CPJMA parent and Jog-a-Thon co-chairperson Jessica Pope was beaming as she announced that the campus’ annual fundraiser “exceeded our wildest dreams.”

Held on Nov. 6, all of the Pacific Beach campus’ 310 students participated to raise over $43,000.

“Our goal was $30,000 … so exceeding that by $13,000 was so wonderful,” Pope said. “This money will be funneled directly back into student classes and activities. This fundraiser supports our students’ science classes, art workshops, weekly PE classes and the always successful Missoula Children’s Theatre classes and productions.”

According to parent Lindsey Phillips, the money will also go toward repairing musical instruments, fieldtrips, adding books to the school’s library and learning technology.

“The success of this fundraiser is not just a testament of Crown Point Junior Music Academy parents and families,” said Principal Sakeenah Smith. “CPJMA also enjoys wide support from our business community. Mission Bagel, American Acai Cafe, Crown Point Coffee and Ice Cream, Yogurt on The Rocks and Mr. Frostie all supported our students in this effort.”

First grader Luca Wright along with third graders Quinn Garcia and Charlie Monte earned the jog-a-thon’s top runner medals.

“Each of these students ran 20 200-meter laps, a total of 2.5 miles in 23 minutes,” Pope said. “That’s a 9.12 (minutes)-per-mile pace. For elementary level students this is an outstanding performance.”
