Cyclist fatally struck by SUV in Oceanside
A 52-year-old man riding a bicycle was fatally struck by an SUV in Oceanside late Saturday, according to police.
Officers received a report around 10:40 p.m. that a cyclist was hit on Harbor Drive near North Pacific Street, said Oceanside Police Department spokesperson Gina Avalos.
The cyclist suffered major head trauma and an open femur fracture, Avalos said. He was taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital, where he died.
His name will be released by the county Medical Examiner’s Office.
Investigators said the driver cooperated with investigators, and alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.
No other information was immediately available.
