Del Mar resident Peter Glaser will receive a proclamation from the Del Mar City Council on Oct. 20 in celebration of his 100th birthday.

Glaser, born in Rhode Island on Oct. 23, has lived in Del Mar for more than 30 years.

Before that, he was a radio repairman in the Pacific Fleet during World War II after joining the Navy at 18, then began a career in electronic engineering, “contributing to the development of one of the Navy’s first commercial computers, a machine so large it filled a warehouse yet had less computing power than today’s wristwatch.”

In Del Mar, Glaser has been a volunteer with the Friends of the Del Mar Library and the Del Mar Historical Society, also helping with the 1999 relaunch of the Del Mar Television Foundation.

For the 1999 relaunch of Del Mar Community Connections, Glaser produced a video called “The New Face of Aging.”

According to the proclamation: “Peter became a participant in Del Mar Community Connections’ Brain Fitness Program, volunteering to manage the program for more than four years. His dedication earned him recognition as Volunteer of the Year, and his leadership has ensured that countless seniors benefitted from this innovative program.”

Glaser married his wife Helen Epstein in 1950. They have two children, Kamala and Russ, two grandchildren Elise and Kyle, and great-grandchild Maya.

The proclamation concludes: “the Del Mar City Council on this occasion honors Peter ‘Pete’ Glaser on the milestone of his 100th birthday, with deepest gratitude for his service to our nation, pioneering work in technology, devotion to family, and lasting contributions to the Del Mar community.”
