Driver from Lakeside dies after crash into ravine in Jamul

by Kristina Davis

A 33-year-old Lakeside woman was killed Thursday when her BMW veered off a road and overturned multiple times down an embankment, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred about 3:30 p.m. on Skyline Truck Trail, just west of Castle Peak Lane, said CHP Officer Jasmine Lopez.

The BMW X5 she was driving was going eastbound when she lost control for unknown reasons, Lopez said.

“Speeding and unsafe turns continue to be leading causes of crashes on our roadways,” CHP Capt. Michael Monteagudo said in a statement. “I urge all drivers to slow down, obey posted speed limits, and approach every turn with caution.”

The driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, the CHP said. Her name has not been released pending notification of family.
