Driver killed in San Ysidro after crashing into tree
A driver was killed in a solo-vehicle crash off Interstate 5 in San Ysidro Friday, the California Highway Patrol said.
The crash occurred about 11:15 a.m. as the man driving a Toyota Corolla used the eastbound Via de San Ysidro on-ramp to merge onto northbound Interstate 5, the CHP said. For unknown reasons, the car veered to the right off the ramp and crashed into a tree, officials said.
The driver was taken to a hospital, where he died. His name was not released pending notification of family.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Any witnesses to the crash are asked to call the CHP San Diego office at 858-293-6000.
