Escondido police involved in shooting after Interstate 15 pursuit
Escondido police were involved in a shooting during a pursuit that ended on Interstate 15 near state Route 163 on Friday, San Diego police officials said.
Escondido officers were chasing a suspect on the freeway when they requested help from a San Diego police helicopter, said San Diego police Officer Anthony Carrasco. The pursuit ended around 4:50 p.m. when Escondido officers were involved in a shooting with a suspect, he said.

A SigAlert was issued, and all lanes of south Interstate 15 at state Route 163 were closed around 5:25 p.m., the California Highway Patrol posted on X.
The condition of the suspect was not immediately available.
Photos captured at the scene showed vehicles from multiple law enforcement agencies parked on the freeway. Police tape stretched across all four lanes of traffic Friday evening.

Escondido police could not be immediately reached for comment.
