Escondido police shoot man alleged to have knife while running through traffic, threatening drivers
Escondido police officers shot a man they said was running through traffic, carrying a knife and threatening drivers just after noon Wednesday, a police lieutenant said.
The incident began around 12:10 p.m. when police received multiple calls of a man running in the road and “lunging at vehicles” near Centre City Parkway and West Felicita Avenue, said Escondido police Lt. Brandon Byler.
Three or four police officers arrived at the scene as the man ran toward 13th Avenue and Centre City Parkway, Byler said. Within a few minutes of the initial call, officers reported that shots had been fired and the man who reportedly had a knife was down.

Escondido Fire Department paramedics arrived and took the wounded man to a hospital, Byler said. The severity of the man’s injuries was not immediately available.
Video recorded at the scene of the shooting by Sideo shows police tape cordoning off the intersection. Clothing can be seen on the ground at the center of the road.
The San Diego Police Department is investigating the shooting under a countywide protocol designed to prevent agencies from investigating shootings by their own officers.
No other information was immediately available.
