Event to be held to recognize and appreciate Solana Beach public art

by News Release

Public art is outdoors and accessible. Most of it can be touched as well as admired. Are you aware of the numerous pieces of art that exist in Solana Beach for a city of this size? Diana Jamaleddine, sustainability management assistant for the City of Solana Beach, and Marilyn Barnett, Solana Beach Community Connections treasurer, will introduce 10 of over 40 works of art available throughout the city, according to a news release.

The talk takes place on Tuesday, Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. at the La Colonia Community Center, located at 157 Stevens Avenue, Solana Beach.

Local artist Betsy Schulz will join them to present her iconic installations. Schulz is well-known for the unique, custom, mosaic sculptural ceramic she’s created for Solana Beach. Schulz’s talk will highlight her works of art which are inspired by nature, history, and education.

The goal is to create awareness and encourage Solana Beach and area residents to walk, drive or stop to see many of the wonderful creative pieces of art. It’s a fun activity for family, friends, and visiting guests.

This event is presented by Solana Beach Community Connections (SBCC), the City of Solana Beach, San Diego Senior Community Foundation and Partners in Aging. It’s a free event and open to the public.
