by La Jolla Light

Five postdoctoral researchers at the Sanford Burnham Prebys medical research institute in La Jolla were honored at the 2025 Fishman Awards ceremony in the Roth Auditorium at the Sanford Consortium for Regenerative Medicine on Sept. 18.

The awards, established in 2001 by Sanford Burnham Prebys supporters Mary Bradley and Reena Horowitz in honor of institute founders William and Lillian Fishman, recognize postdoctoral researchers through a competitive application process.

The awards consist of the two-year Fishman Fellowship, which is bestowed every other year to a young scientist ranked highest by the selection committee; the Fishman Research Excellence Award, given for outstanding biomedical research contributions; and the Fishman Career Development Awards, which provide $10,000 for postdocs to attend workshops, seminars and conferences and network with top scientists in their fields.

This year’s Career Award winners are Alejandro Lillo, Kokila Shankar, Meenakshi Sudhakaran and Bastien Cimarosti. The Research Excellence Award went to Dr. Theophilos Tzaridis.
