Foodie Forecast: Pizza deal, vegan food festival, Taste of Encinitas

Here is some of the latest in menu news from across San Diego County, as well as some upcoming events for foodies.

Cork and Craft has named Bryan Garcia as its new executive chef and introduced a new dinner menu that is inspired by Spanish, American, Italian and Asian cuisines. This Rancho Bernardo restaurant is now serving tomahawk steaks, lamb chops, salmon poke tacos, butter-poached lobster tails, al pastor octopus and more. The dessert menu now consists of butter toffee cake, budino, basque cheesecake and creme brulee bread pudding. Vegan food festival: The third annual Oceanside Vegan Food Festival is back with more than 70 vendors. Some of the food the public can purchase at this plant-based food festival are barbecue, cookies, donuts, gyros, pastas, pizza, sushi, tacos and wings. There will also be Chinese, Egyptian, Korean and West African vegan food options. The event will also feature vendors selling sustainable items such as artwork, apparel, jewelry, home goods, organic produce and wellness products. Plus, DJ and games will be part of the festival. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Pier View Way between Coast Highway and Ditmar Street, Oceanside. New Orleans cuisines: The Del Mar Racetrack is hosting the fifth annual Taste of New Orleans. This event honors the culinary, beverage and music scene. Food samples include fried shrimp platters, gumbo, jambalaya, po’boys and Louisiana banana pudding. Bands scheduled to perform are the Euphoria Brass Band and the Chunky Hustle Brass band. The event also features artisan and craft vendors, stiltwalkers and a Mardi Gras style procession. Each paid ticket includes five New Orleans-themed drinks. Wine tasting: Pali Wine Co. in Little Italy is celebrating its sixth Backyard Bash with the release of this year’s summer wines. Paid attendees can sample the limited production of these wines, try appetizers and listen to DJ sets. Limited-edition shirts will also be available for purchase, with proceeds going to the nonprofits Berry Good Foundation and Zero Footprint, according to the event organizer. Taste of Encinitas: Expect meet-and-greets with chefs and restaurateurs at the Taste of Encinitas. For more than 30 years, the Encinitas 101 MainStreet Association has managed this downtown summer food festival. The event also involves an array of food samples and live entertainment. Pizza deal: Two nights out of the week, California Pizza Kitchen is selling $10 pies. Customers can choose from four pizza types at a discounted price for a limited time on Mondays and Tuesdays. The pizza deal line up includes CPK’s original barbecue chicken pizza, pepperoni pizza, five cheese and tomato pizza and its mushroom, pepperoni and sausage pizza. The $10 pizza are available for dine-ine, takeout for delivery. CPK has locations in Chula Vista, Carmel Mountain, downtown San Diego and Fashion Valley. cpk.com
