Halloween fun for those in Pacific Beach, Mission Beach

Halloween fun for those of all ages is coming to Pacific Beach and Mission Beach. Here are a few spooky options.

The Pacific Beach Recreation Center, 1405 Diamond Street, will show the Disney-Pixar 2018 animated movie “Incredibles 2” for free on Friday, Oct. 10 at dusk. It is rated PG. Bring a lawn chair or blanket for grass seating.

Starting at 5 p.m. there will be a variety of activities, games and a bounce house. Snacks will also be available. For details, call 858-581-9927.

Watch “The Phantom of the Opera” for free at the Pacific Beach/Taylor Library, 4275 Cass Street.

The 2004 movie version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical can be seen at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14. It is rated PG-13 and stars Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum, Patrick Wilson, Miranda Richardson and Minnie Driver.

The 1925 silent movie version will be shown at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19. It is not rated and stars Lon Chaney, Mary Philbin and Norman Kerry.

The Pacific Beach/Taylor Library will hold its Halloween Craftacular from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 18 in the library’s community room, 4275 Cass Street.

Bring the family for crafting fun such as painting pumpkin signs, designing trick-or-treat bags, creating spooky decorations and making clay ghosts. For details, call 858-581-9934.

All families in the community are welcome to attend Crown Point Junior Music Academy’s annual Trunk or Treat from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25.

The festive and free Halloween celebration will be held outdoors at the campus, 4033 Ingraham Street. There will be carnival games plus delicious food and treats for sale. Attendees are also encouraged to vote for their favorite trunk.

“It’s going to be a night of costumes, candy and community fun,” said PTO member Lindsay Phillips. “We can’t wait to see you there!”

The Pacific Beach/Taylor Library is once again offering free lessons to learn Michael Jackson’s famous “Thriller” dance in order to prepare for its Thriller Night performance at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28.

“We’ll start by slowly introducing the steps then combining them into the dance,” according to library staff. “Come ready to laugh while learning the choreography for the most thrilling dance ever.”

Participants are welcome to attend any or all of the hour-long rehearsals. They are set for 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25; along with 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 14, 21 and 28. The Oct. 28 rehearsal will only be a half-hour with a break offered before the 7 p.m. performance. The library is at 4275 Cass Street.

For those unable to attend the library’s Tuesday or Saturday rehearsals, they can also learn the dance by watching a video of the choreography or by attending ThrillerSD classes throughout the county. For details, visit tinyurl.com/PBThriller25.

Belmont Park is holding its annual Beachside Fall Fest every weekend through October. The fall celebration is packed with fun for those of all ages, who can experience iconic amusement park rides, rockin’ retro displays and enjoy live music with weekly pumpkin jams in the heart of the park.

In addition, there is free trick-or-treating offered to children every Sunday in October, where little ones can embark on a candy quest through the park. Kids can also ride free all October long with the purchase of an adult wristband.

There will also be free trick-or-treating during Belmont Park’s fifth annual Trunk-or-Treat Car Show. The event will feature over 50 classic vehicles and candy stations throughout the show and park.

SeaWorld San Diego is holding its Halloween Spooktacular on select dates through Nov. 2. Participants can set sail on its pirate-themed Halloween adventure filled with interactive activities, trick-or-treating and photo-worthy moments. Park admission is required.

Howl-O-Scream, San Diego’s largest nighttime Halloween experience, is returning for the fifth year. SeaWorld will be transformed into a sinister, spine-chilling playground of terror where a carnival of horrifying creatures will surround attendees.

Evade five angry haunts through eight scare zones and four vile vignettes. There are also six themed bars and five speakeasies along with a live show, dancing and nighttime coaster ride. Tickets are required.
