High School Football Roundup: Bishop’s wins another rout; La Jolla High edges San Diego
With the end of the high school football regular season in sight, La Jolla’s three teams are trying to improve their positions for possible postseason runs.
The Bishop’s School and La Jolla High helped themselves with victories, while La Jolla Country Day wasn’t as fortunate.
Bishop’s 35, Escondido Charter 0
The Knights kept rolling, posting their third consecutive dominant shutout victory by blowing out Escondido Charter at La Jolla High School on Oct. 18.
Bishop’s boosted its record to 7-1 as the Tigers fell to 2-6.
The Knights have won their past three games by a combined 137-0.
They’ll round out the regular season with two big Coastal League games, first at Army-Navy Academy of Carlsbad (6-1) at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, and at Santa Fe Christian of Solana Beach (currently 9-0) at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31.
La Jolla High 36, San Diego High 33
The Vikings came up with a much-needed home win over Eastern League rival San Diego, improving their season record to 5-3 as they bounced back from the previous week’s 54-3 loss to Lincoln, the top-ranked team in the CIF San Diego Section.
In the Oct. 17 match-up against San Diego, the Vikings had just enough to outlast the Cavers as Emerson Rota threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Nicolas Bardaro with less than a minute left. Bardaro also had a TD run and Aiden Farrell rushed for 202 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 8.1 yards per carry.
Coming up next for La Jolla is a visit to league opponent St. Augustine of San Diego (3-5) at 7 p.m. Oct. 24.
Santa Fe Christian 42, La Jolla Country Day 7
It started with a bang for Country Day as quarterback Jett Astephan hit Hesh Hertz for a long touchdown.
What at the time appeared to be a spark for the Torreys ultimately served as a footnote in what ended up being a blowout victory for Santa Fe Christian on Country Day’s home field Oct. 17.
The win pushed the Eagles’ record to 9-0 while dropping the Torreys to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in Coastal League play.
La Jolla Country Day next will take on Classical Academy of Escondido (2-6) at 7 p.m. Oct. 24.
