High School Football Roundup: La Jolla High goes crosstown to beat Country Day

by La Jolla Light

With only two of La Jolla’s three high school varsity football teams in action this week — and both of those teams playing each other — the local focus came down to one game.

La Jolla High 31, La Jolla Country Day 10

The first La Jolla crosstown rivalry game of the season pitted the La Jolla High Vikings against the La Jolla Country Day Torreys on the latter’s home field Sept. 5 as both 1-1 teams tried to climb above .500.

As it turned out, the Vikings — who the previous week had rebounded from a lopsided season-opening defeat to Torrey Pines to rout Patrick Henry — were too much for the Torreys, who were still stinging from a last-minute loss a week earlier to Mount Carmel.

The Vikings (2-1) next will host Grossmont (2-0) at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12.

Next up for the Torreys (1-2) is a home game vs. Scripps Ranch (also 1-2) at 7 p.m. Sept. 12.

The Bishop’s School

Bishop’s (2-0) had a bye this week and next will take on the California Military Institute (0-2) on the road in Perris at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11. ♦
