Holiday toy drive in Logan Heights for kids in need
The nonprofit Logan Heights Community Development Corporation is holding a holiday toy drive for local kids who might not otherwise have Christmas gifts. The nonprofit is collecting donations of new, unwrapped toys for its annual holiday toy drive, Toys for Kids, that will help 200 area families and a total of roughly 570 children from infancy to age 17.
Last year, thanks to community support, the nonprofit was able to overcome a major toy donation shortfall to serve nearly 1,000 families. But with donations down again this year the nonprofit had to cap registration at 200 families. The spots were filled in less than 12 hours. Toys are especially needed for ages 6-17.
Donations can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through 6 p.m. Dec. 4 at Logan Heights CDC, 3040 Imperial Ave. Open daily, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Donations can also be made online at onecau.se/_e8bdm1.
The toy distribution for registered families will be at the nonprofit’s annual Light Up Logan community celebration from 2 to 8 p.m. Dec. 5 at The Soap Factory, 2995 Commercial St. Highlights include holiday activities, small business shopping and the annual tree lighting. Along with a holiday market featuring local vendors, the event will include kids’ crafts, real snow, visits with Santa, live music. Visit loganheightscdc.org.
