Hurricane Narda expected to send strong surf to San Diego County this weekend
San Diego County is likely to get strong surf this weekend from Narda, a Category One hurricane that is churning south-southwest of the tip of Baja California, according to the National Weather Service.
Narda was expected to strengthen some on Wednesday and hold a lot of its strength into Thursday before falling apart. Energy from the storm could begin to reach the county late Friday and build into the weekend, forecasters say.
It appears that many beaches will receive 4-to-6-foot waves; some, especially in North County, will get sets up to eight feet. The surf will create hazardous rip currents.
Sea surface temperatures in recent days have been in the range of 62 to 68 degrees.
