Intruder arrested after woman, 71, found stabbed to death in National City home

National City police chased and arrested an intruder after he ran from a home where a 71-year-old woman was apparently stabbed to death Wednesday, officials said.

Police were called about 2:10 p.m. to investigate a suspected assault at a home on East Division Street near D Avenue, Detective Sgt. Mark Segal said in a news release Thursday.

The caller said he found blood in the entryway of their home, and his wife injured in the nearby kitchen. He also gave police the description of a stranger found inside the home, Segal said.

Officers arrived and found a man matching the stranger’s description jumping from the second-story window and fleeing the scene. Segal said officers chased the man through several backyards, and when they caught up and confronted him, he tried to run again. Officers deployed a police dog and less-lethal tools to bring him into custody.

The woman died in the home. Her name was not immediately released.

The man who fled, identified by police as Noel Trevino, 30, was booked into jail on suspicion of one count of murder. Online jail records indicate he is being held without bail and could be arraigned Friday in Chula Vista Superior Court.
