Lincoln’s 2022 team stands atop list of best state football champs since 2000
A look at the best state championship teams to come out of San Diego since 2000:
1. Lincoln 33, Concord De La Salle 28 (2022): Roderick Robinson rushed 22 times for 218 yards and 4 TDs as Lincoln wrapped a 13-1 season.
2. Cathedral Catholic 37, Stockton St. Mary’s 34 (2008): Tyler Gaffney accounted for nearly 500 yards rushing, receiving and passing as the Dons finished 14-0.
3. Cathedral Catholic 33, Folsom 21 (2021): Lucky Sutton carried 31 times for 241 yards as the Dons finished 12-2.
4. Lincoln 28 Pittsburg 26 (2024): Akili Smith Jr. threw for 172 yards and 3 TDs for the Hornets, who finished 12-2.
5. Mater Dei Catholic 26, Oakland McClymonds 18 (2022): The Crusaders won their final 11 games to finish 11-4.
6. Granite Hills 31, Danville San Ramon Valley 24 (2022): Granite Hills scored in OT, then held to win and finish the season 13-2.
7. Helix 35, Loomis Del Oro 21 (2011): Helix led 28-7 at the half and finished the season 13-1.
8. Scripps Ranch 31, Santa Clara Wilcox 28 (2021): Jax Leatherwood threw for 372 yards and 4 TDs, including a 10-yarder to Dean Paley in game’s dying seconds, as Scripps Ranch finished the season 13-1.
9 Steele Canyon 49, Half Moon Bay 42 (2017): Steele Canyon led 34-21 at the end of three quarters, then hung on to win and finish 12-4.
10. Oceanside 24, San Jose Bellarmine Prep 19 (2009): Oceanside ran the table and finished the season 14-0.
11. Mater Dei Catholic 34, Modesto Central Catholic 25 (2021): Crusaders won by nine to finish the season 14-0.
12. Rancho Bernardo 35, Atherton Sacred Heart 14 (2015): RB routed Scared Heart to finish the season 13-2.
13. Madison 38, Marin Catholic 35 (2012): Pierre Cormier rushed 24 times for 252 yards and 3 TDs and Madison finished 14-1.
14. Folsom 49, Helix 42 (2017): Helix scored in the final minute, but couldn’t recover the onside kick and finish the season 13-2.
15. San Diego 21, Colfax 10 (2018): Cavers started the season 0-2 before winning their final 12 games.
16. Oceanside 28, Novato 14 (2007): Pirates win their final 12 games to finish the season 12-1.
17. Madison 21, San Jose Valley Christian 17 (2016): Terrell Carter threw for 230 yards and a TD and Erick Buchanan rushed for 163 yards and 3 TDs as the Warhawks finished their season 13-2.
18. Moraga Campolindo 35, El Capitan 28 (2014): Vaqueros lost their only game of the season in the final, finishing 14-1.
19. Bishop’s 40, Stockton Brookside 14 (2010): Bishop’s won big in the championship game and finished the season 14-0.
20. Classical Academy 7, San Jose Santa Teresa 0 (2022): Life Pollard’s first-quarter TD held up in a driving rainstorm, and the Caimans finished the season 12-3.
