A 40-year-old man who was shot and killed in San Diego’s Linda Vista neighborhood has been identified, authorities said Tuesday.

Officers responded around 12:45 a.m. Monday to reports of shots fired near the Linda Vista Recreation Center on Levant Street, according to San Diego police.

Police said they found Enrique Nunez in the park suffering from at least one gunshot wound. They began lifesaving measures until paramedics with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department arrived.

Nunez was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators believe that the shooter, described as a heavy-set man, approached the victim in the park and shot him.

A motive for the shooting has not yet been confirmed, and no arrests have been made, the department stated.

No further information was immediately available.

Authorities urged anyone with information about the shooting to call the Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
