Man serving life sentence in El Cajon slaying accused in prison killing
A man serving a life sentence for an El Cajon murder is accused along with two other prison inmates of killing a fellow inmate this week.
The alleged attack at Salinas Valley State Prison happened just before 10 a.m. Thursday, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
State prison officials say Todd S. Morgan, 57, was attacked in a recreation yard by three inmates who were using improvised weapons. Morgan was pronounced dead shortly after the attack, while the inmates allegedly involved in the fatal altercation were moved to restricted housing.
Among them was Ray N. Waldron, 51, who was convicted of first-degree murder, attempted murder, assault with a firearm and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Court documents state Waldron was convicted for the Sept. 27, 2003, shooting death of David Florentine, 56, outside Kelly’s Pub in El Cajon. The shooter and victim were members of rival motorcycle gangs, according to court documents. Waldron was sentenced to 178 years to life for the slaying.
Last year, Waldron received another life sentence for attempted murder while in prison, prison officials stated.
The other inmates allegedly involved in the attack include Todd Givens, 56, who was sentenced to death for a Tulare County murder, and Robert England, 61, who is serving a life sentence for a San Bernardino County murder.
Morgan was serving a life sentence on robbery, gun and drug charges.
