Midway project should connect directly to Interstate 8
Re “Midway Rising’s $3.9B plan for San Diego’s sports arena site advances” (Sept. 26): The Midway Rising plan doesn’t lessen the current Midway area traffic problems. It makes them worse.
Replacing cars with public transit is not the answer. It is a fact of Southern California life that public transportation and bicycles will not take people to many places they need to go, at least without great inconvenience.
Since cars aren’t going away, let’s face reality and make it easier to get around in the Midway District.
My suggestion: Require the developers to provide direct access to Interstate 8. There is no developed property between the north corner of the Sports Arena parking lot and the 8. The only thing between the parking lot and the 8 is Hancock Street.
This would allow direct access to this development to and from the east on 8, or the south on Interstate 5, keeping cars off Rosecrans, Midway and Sports Arena.
Developers’ objections can be overcome.
