Motorcyclist killed in Vista crash

A 23-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving an SUV in Vista on Wednesday night, authorities said.

Deputies responded around 7 p.m. to North Melrose Drive near Olive Avenue after witnesses reported a motorcycle had collided with an SUV, causing the rider to be ejected, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

A preliminary investigation found that the motorcyclist was riding northbound on Melrose when an SUV entered the street from Dove Circle. The motorcyclist attempted to avoid the collision but struck the SUV, sheriff’s officials said.

The rider was ejected and landed along the west curb line of the southbound lanes. Deputies began CPR until paramedics arrived, but he died at the scene. His name was not released.

The driver of the SUV stopped after the collision and cooperated with deputies during the investigation, sheriff’s officials said.
