NCTD announces rail closure Oct. 25-26
Coastal rail service will be suspended the weekend of Oct. 25-26 for routine railroad maintenance and infrastructure work, North County Transit District announced.
“While no passenger or freight trains will operate during the weekend closure, other test trains, construction vehicles, and equipment will be active along the railroad right-of-way and on the tracks throughout the weekend,” the agency announced in a news release. “Residents along the corridor should remain alert, and the public is reminded to only cross the rail line at lawfully designated rail crossings.”
The work includes Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization Phase 5, track maintenance for Santa Fe Depot and between Sorrento Valley and Rose Canyon, and signal optimization in Carlsbad for the San Diego LOSSAN Rail Realignment Project work at Los Penasquitos Lagoon.
“Weekend closures occur periodically throughout the year on a pre-determined schedule to provide construction crews the opportunity to work safely on and along the rail line to complete preventative maintenance improvements and advance major railroad construction projects,” the news release read.
NCTD does not have any more weekend closures scheduled in this calendar year. In 2026, closures are scheduled for Jan. 10-11, Jan. 24-25, Feb. 21-22, March 7-8, March 21-22, Oct. 17-18 and Nov. 7-8 for projects including Del Mar bluff stabilization.
