No one injured as small plane makes emergency landing on I-805
A small plane made an emergency landing on Interstate 805 in Sorrento Valley on Saturday, coming to rest near the center divide and not hitting any vehicles on the freeway, authorities said.
The pilot landed the aircraft in the southbound lane of the freeway at Carroll Canyon Road shortly after 5:35 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
A witness told the CHP the white plane landed “facing sideways up against the center divider wall, blocking the center divider and the No. 1 lane.”
CBS8 reported the two people onboard the plane got out safely.
The 1980 Piper PA-28-181 is a four-seat single-engine plane, and it is registered to Vandelay Aviation LLC in San Diego, according to Federal Aviation Administration records. The company provides aviation instruction.
The plane took off from Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport at 5:05 p.m. and flew up and down the coast for about a half hour before the pilot made the landing on the freeway, according to FlightAware tracking site.

All southbound lanes were initially shut down and traffic was taken off at Sorrento Valley Road, the CHP said. Northbound traffic was not impacted.
At about 6:50 p.m., all but the HOV and No. 1 lanes were reopened, the CHP reported. The remaining lanes were reopened at about 9 p.m.
No other information about the incident was immediately available.
