Our Readers Write: La Jolla cityhood, UCSD growth

La Jolla shouldn’t be forced to stay in a bad marriage

In reference to the letter “Why would San Diego let La Jolla go?” (Our Readers Write, Sept. 25, La Jolla Light):

Because it is the honest and honorable thing to do when a fellow community is in trouble.

The city is broke and has told La Jolla it has no infrastructure money. La Jolla just wants to preserve and protect our community. We are being forced to stay in a very bad marriage and would be able to take care of ourselves and make La Jolla wonderful for all that come here if we could control our own destiny.

The tides are turning, and other communities are going through the same same thing and would also like to separate and have more control of their own history.

The city of San Diego has gotten too large over the years, and communities are suffering. I totally believe people can now see that this is not a selfish thing but a preservation thing.

UC San Diego is already too big — stop adding on

An open letter to UC San Diego Chancellor Pradeep Khosla, prolific builder:

Dear sir:

No, no and no!!! You should not build a 30- to 40-story building to help UCSD expand enrollment to 56,000 (“UC San Diego considers building 40-story dorm to further enrollment expansion,” Sept. 25, La Jolla Light).

Do not even think of building any more monster buildings on what used to be a quite beautiful campus. There are too many already, too many people, too many cars and a serious uglification of the skyline.

Stop building already!!! And stop enrolling so many thousands of students who need housing.
