Our Readers Write: Scripps Park sidewalk project is good all around
Excited for Scripps Park sidewalk widening
I’ve read a few negative reader commentaries lately regarding the Coast Boulevard sidewalk widening project at Scripps Park, including complaints of money wasted or misspent or that could be better used elsewhere (“Sidewalk plan may be wider, but is it wiser?” Our Readers Write, Aug. 14, La Jolla Light).
The $750,000 budget that’s been mentioned is now not true, as that number was originally an allocation from the city of San Diego a few years ago for planning and design of the project, not even turning a shovel. Fortunately, the city’s Parks & Recreation Department is able to instead go forward with the project in-house for a little over $100,000. Now that’s great city budget use, for once!
Many of us in the La Jolla community groups have been pushing for this much-needed safety-hazard repair in a high-traffic area for years (not to mention the eyesore), and we’re excited for the community and visitors that it’s finally happening! I also think Ellen [Browning Scripps] would be very grateful.
