Padres minors: Eguy Rosario homers for Missions, Ethan Salas headlines AFL invites
Eguy Rosario is back to hitting at Double-A San Antonio.
The 26-year-old infielder homered in his first game back in the Texas League, leading the Missions to a 5-3 win at Springfield on Wednesday.
Rosario went 2-for-4 with a walk.
He missed nearly two months after undergoing sports hernia surgery in what had already been a trying season. Rosario was removed from the Padres’ 40-man roster before the start of the season and had a .509 OPS in 29 games at Triple-A El Paso when he was sent to rookie ball for a season “reset.”
Rosario was hitting .145/.242/.327 in 14 games while rehabbing at high Single-A Fort Wayne before joining the Missions this week.
Designated hitter Albert Fabian (.726 OPS) and left fielder Wyatt Hoffman (.431 OPS) also had two hits.
Right-hander Jared Kollar (3-8, 5.35 ERA) allowed a run in five innings in the start.
Right-hander Cole Paplham (11.12 ERA) turned in two scoreless innings.
San Antonio 64-69.
Salas to Arizona Fall League
Catcher Ethan Salas headlines eight Padres prospects who will participate in the Arizona Fall League. Salas has been out since mid-April with a stress reaction in the lower right side of his back. He was cleared for activity last month but at that point the team believed he would not be able to ramp up in time for the end of the regular season.
Despite the invitation to the Arizona Fall League, the Padres have not ruled out a winter ball for Salas, who had just 41 plate appearances this year in San Antonio and is looking to make up for lost at-bats.
Salas hit four home runs in 23 games last year in the Arizona Fall League. He is ranked No. 1 in the Padres farm system by MLB.com.
Other prospects joining Salas in the Arizona Fall League are right-hander Isaiah Lowe (26), outfielder Braedon Karpathios (29), infielder Ryan Jackson, right-hander Maikel Miralles, right-hander Carson Montgomery, right-hander Johan Moreno and right-hander Tucker Musgrove.
The Arizona Fall League begins Oct. 6
