Padres minors: Rehabbing Eguy Rosario homers twice in TinCaps loss
Eguy Rosario is doing what he can to salvage a lost season.
The 26-year-old infielder homered twice in high Single-A Fort Wayne’s 7-5 loss to visiting Dayton on Sunday, his first real momentum since returning from sports hernia surgery.
Rosario drove in four runs on three hits and is hitting .167/.231/.389 in nine rehab games after missing more than two months of the season.
The year had already been tough for Rosario, who was removed from the Padres’ 40-man roster at the start of the season, went unclaimed and struggled at Triple-A El Paso to the point that he was sent to rookie ball for a reset.
Including his rehab work with Fort Wayne, Rosario is hitting .196/.263/.279 with three homers, 17 RBIs and 57 strikeouts in 50 games across three levels.
First baseman Brendan Durfee (.642 OPS) doubled in five at-bats and left fielder Kasen Wells (.655 OPS) went 2-for-5 with a run scored.
Right-hander Will Varmette (2-5, 8.16 ERA) allowed six runs in 3⅔ innings in the loss.
Fort Wayne is 55-70.
