Padres minors: Will Wagner homers for El Paso, Missions lose ninth in a row
Will Wagner is making a strong case for a September call-up.
The 27-year-old infielder continued a hot start in the Padres organization, homering and driving in three runs in Triple-A El Paso’s 7-5 win at Reno on Friday.
Wagner also singled and is hitting .378/.440/.556 with two homers and 12 RBIs in 10 games since the Padres acquired him from the Blue Jays for catcher Brandon Valenzuela.
Wagner, who is on the 40-man roster, is a .265/.336/.362 hitter in 196 at-bats across 64 big-league games since making his debut last year.
First baseman Luis Campusano (1.053 OPS) and right fielder Yonathan Perlaza (.887 OPS) both had two hits, while shortstop Tyler Wade (.785 OPS) went 1`-for-4 with a double, a walk, a steal and two runs scored.
Right-hander Matt Waldron (5.83 ERA) allowed five runs on seven hits, no walks and a hit batter in five innings. He struck out six.
Right-hander Raul Brito (6.02 ERA) threw two scoreless innings and right-handers Alek Jacob (4.87 ERA) and Sean Reynolds (3.72 ERA) both turned in scoreless frames. Reynolds earned his third save.
El Paso is 62-52.

DH Albert Fabian (.827 OPS) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, a walk and a run scored. SS Francisco Acuña (.711 OPS) had three hits and 1B Romeo Sanabria (.711 OPS) and CF Damon Dues (.329 OPS) both had two hits.
HIGH SINGLE-A FORT WAYNE (51-60)
W. Michigan 5, TinCaps 1: RHP Isaiah Lowe (3-10, 5.81 ERA) allowed four runs in four innings in the loss. Fort Wayne had two hits, a single from CF Kasen Wells (.618 OPS) and 1B Jack Costello (.612 OPS). SS Jonathan Vastine (.295 OPS) walked three times.
LOW SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE (51-61)
San Jose 12, Storm 1: RHP Maikel Miralles (2-3, 5.08 ERA) allowed five runs in 4⅓ innings in the start in the loss. RF Kavares Tears (.678 OPS) went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. 2B B.Y. Choi (.666 OPS) went 2-for-4. SS Jorge Quintana (.485 OPS) went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.
ROOKIE DSL BROWN (18-34)
Orioles 3, Padres 2 (7): C Angel Mejia (.580 OPS) went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. CF Sebastian Pena (.548 OPS) and DH Gabriel Teran (.900 OPS) both had two hits.
ROOKIE DSL GOLD (37-16)
Padres 4, Guardians 1: CF Moises Gomez (.858 OPS) went 1-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and a walk. RHP Raymel Belliard (2.45 ERA) struck out three and allowed only an unearned run in 4⅔ innings in the start.
