by Julie Gallant

The Special Olympics softball team Poway Padres and a company team from General Atomics Aeronautical Systems played a game to warm up the Padres for their new season in September.

The two teams, which played last year, returned for an Aug. 24 game that was organized by Padres Coach Tony Rubino and Amber Kimberling of General Atomics.

The General Atomics team was led by the pitching of Christina Adelman and catching of Kimberling. The dugout and lineup were managed by veteran GA softball manager, Armando Rivera, who assembled the lineup.

The Poway Padres were led by their workhorse pitcher, Michael Blades, some great hitting by Justin Arnold and great outfield flyball catches by Scottie Shaver.

After the game, Rubino said the Poway Padres had been looking forward to the game. He also said he appreciates the community support of General Atomics.

General Atomics is a defense and diversified technologies company based in Torrey Pines. The company specializes in unmanned aerial systems and employs over 2,000 people. The players were representatives of the company softball league.
