Prepared today, safe tomorrow: A community presentation on emergency preparedness
Del Mar Community Connections (DMCC), in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association, invites the public to attend Prepared Today, Safe Tomorrow, a free community event focused on helping families and older adults prepare for natural disasters and emergencies. The event will take place on Thursday, Sept. 18, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Del Mar Town Hall (1050 Camino Del Mar).
This engaging session will feature a panel of local experts: Lena Huang (Alzheimer’s Association, San Diego/Imperial Chapter), Bryan Devore (Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties, DRE #01397835), and Brooke Martindale (Cheer Home and Health Care). Together, they will provide practical strategies and tools for seniors, caregivers, and community members who want to strengthen their emergency readiness.
Emergencies can be overwhelming, but the right preparation provides peace of mind. Whether you are caring for an aging parent, supporting a loved one living with dementia, or simply thinking ahead for your own household, this discussion offers reassurance that you are not alone. Many in our community face the same questions…What do I pack in an emergency kit? How will I keep my loved one calm during an evacuation? Who can I count on if I can’t be there? This event will offer guidance, answers, and a sense of community connection, according to a news release.
The discussion will cover critical topics, including:
•What seniors and their families can do to prepare for emergencies
•How to create a safe and resilient home environment
•Building an effective emergency kit with comfort and care items
•Senior care scenarios and real-life preparedness lessons
•Supporting individuals living with dementia during emergencies and evacuations
“Natural disasters can strike without warning, and preparedness can make all the difference, especially for older adults and those living with dementia,” said Cheer Home & Health Care CEO Brooke Martindale in the news release. “This event is designed to give families the knowledge and confidence they need to respond safely and effectively.”
The event is free and open to the public. Advance registration is required. Those interested may RSVP online at: www.dmcc.cc/ProgramRegistration.
