Preview: Cathedral Catholic, Bishop’s boys play for regional titles in water polo

Division 2: (1) Bishop’s (14-15) vs. (2) Santana (24-5), 2:30 p.m. 

Preview: The two local teams meet for the first time this season after each advancing to their first SoCal final. Both also reached the San Diego Section’s Open Division semifinals. Santana counts on Hunter Stuart, the only returning starter from last season’s team that lost in the SoCal semifinals. Senior Colton Bell helps spark Bishop’s, which previously vied in Division 1 in this tourney.

Division 1: (3) Cathedral Catholic (26-5) vs. (1) Newport Harbor (30-1), 4 p.m.

Preview: Cathedral Catholic is the first San Diego Section team to make the Division 1 final over the tourney’s eight-year history. Senior Max Arnold paces the Dons as a returning all-section player in his fourth varsity season. Also keying the attack are Diego Dantas and Braylin Axline. Cathedral dealt the Sailors their only loss of the season on Oct. 11. The Dons have rebounded after their two-year section Open Division title reign ended in the finals. Newport won the Southern Section Open Division crown.
