Preview: Nation’s leading scorer carries Bishop’s into Open Division field hockey finals

Division 2: (2) Eastlake (17-1-2) vs. (1) Del Norte (15-4), 1 p.m.

Preview: Eastlake recorded shutouts over No. 7 Point Loma and No. 6 Rancho Buena Vista in the first two rounds. Eastlake’s lone loss and two ties came within a two-day stretch during the University City Tournament in September. … Del Norte logged shutout wins against No. 8 Bonita Vista and No. 5 Mira Mesa. Of Del Norte’s 15 wins, 10 have come by one goal, including Wednesday’s overtime win over Mira Mesa. Del Norte is looking for its first section title since 2019 while Eastlake last won a title in 2018.

Division 1: (6) La Costa Canyon (10-14-2) vs. (1) Mt. Carmel (15-8-1),  3:30 p.m.

Preview: After losing four straight from Sept. 26 to Oct. 9, the Sundevils have turned things around, winning their last seven entering the Division 1 final. That includes shutting out No. 9 University City 2-0 before outlasting Fallbrook 2-1 in overtime. Senior Quinn Van Doren leads Mt. Carmel with 22 goals. The Sundevils are looking for their first section title after reaching the Division 2 finals in 2018 and 2021. … La Costa Canyon defeated No. 11 Mission Vista in the opening round before defeating No. 3 San Dieguito Academy and No. 2 Rancho Bernardo in overtime. The Mavericks are looking for their first section title since 2007.

Open Division: (4) Canyon Hills (19-5) vs. (2) Bishop’s (22-2), 6 p.m.

Preview: Bishop’s, the reigning Open Division champion, is one step away from repeating. The Knights took down last year’s Division 2 champion Mission Bay in the quarterfinals before beating No. 3 Scripps Ranch 4-0. The reigning section player of the year, Lola Conway, leads the Knights with 51 goals, which is the most in the country. …Canyon Hills took down No. 8 Canyon Crest in the semifinals after the Ravens beat top-seeded Torrey Pines. The Rattlers are looking for their fifth Open Division title. They are led by sophomore Eva Allen, who has 19 goals this season. Bishop’s won both meetings during Western League play.
